Through our innovative finishing solutions and industry leading delivery times, ISO Finishing has become the go-to finishing resource for Fortune 500 manufacturers to small business owners alike.

What is Isotropic

Simply put, Isotropic means “having uniform physical properties in all directions”. In the mass finishing world, isotropic finishing refers to the surface of the component no longer showing any of the peaks, grinding marks, burrs or other imperfections commonly experienced in the machining, molding or casting processes. Isotropic mass finishing ensures a part’s surface will have no discernible marks, lines or patterns. A microscope is often required to see any of the minute imperfections left on the surface of the finished part.

We are experts in developing customized finishing programs for all your parts or components. From simple deburring to high-end titanium finishing, our combination of specialized tumbling media and centrifugal polishing expertise fill the finishing gaps in your overall part production process.  Call our finishing experts today at 1-844-623-7998.

Why is Surface Roughness So Important in Manufacturing?

Surface roughness is a component of surface texture and plays an important roll in determining how an object will interact with its environment. Roughness is a good indicator of the performance of a mechanical component, since irregularities on the surface may form nucleation sites for cracks or corrosion. In tribology, rough surfaces usually wear more quickly and may have higher friction coefficients than smooth surfaces. For some applications, roughness may be desired to promote adhesion for cosmetic finish coatings such as painting, powder coating or plating.

Surface finish usually refers to a level of polishing or texture intended for the part or component surface. Some parts may require simple burr removal to allow them to enter the next phase of production. Other parts may require complete polishing if they are finished goods. The desired finish of a job depends on the product application, material, and type of finish your part requires.

Maintaining surface finish is critical for manufacturers and engineers to produce consistent and reliable production processes for each product. Where precision surface engineering is required, surface measurement may be a key element of maintaining control of the manufacturing, by monitoring the process to ensure it is within certain specifications. Mass finishing allows for the mechanical finishing of many parts simultaneously. Mass finishing may be used to deburr, descale, brighten, and polish parts.  ISO Finishing has developed and documented processes to ensure each finished part exceeds the most demanding requirements to achieve consistent results.

Providing Surface Engineering from Start to Finish

We have worked with manufacturers in industries ranging from medical and aerospace to firearms and OEMs to carry out isotropic finishing services and create finished products. These unique industries and their products require attention to the finest of details—and yield virtually no room for error.

Our process includes several steps to ensure parts and product reliability:

Custom Development Strategy
There is no magic here—it’s precision. We customize each finishing process to fit our clients’ needs from start to finish. At the end of the day, we specialize in you. Our centrifugal barrel services are ideal for parts from 3mm³ to up to 9” x 9” x 41” and are custom tailored for each specific component.

Samples & Quality
We formulate a process for each product and provide our clients with finished samples at no charge. Collaboration with the customer is key. If something needs improvement, we’ll use the client feedback to adjust the process—not the standard. The result is a customized, consistent, and repeatable set of specifications for finishing your unique product.

Advanced Technology
We continue to add state-of-the-art machinery, media and inspection equipment to adapt to the industry’s latest advances. Our methods have exceeded expectations by providing a better finishing quality and faster turnaround times than are typically possible in-house or as an outsourced operation.

ISO Finishing works on products made of all types of materials. Contact us today at 1-844-623-7998 for creating surface perfection on your manufactured parts.
